My hope is to safely integrate Ayurveda into the care and health of your pet by working with your Western/allopathic vet. This will require ongoing care from your Western vet, including but not limited to labwork (e.g., blood, urine or fecal tests) and imaging (e.g., x-rays or ultrasound), so please do maintain a lovely relationship with your Western veterinarian! :)
In regards to Ayurveda for your pet, we will explore the following 3 aspects in particular: Diet/Food, Lifestyle/Environment and Herbs.
Fresh, organic and minimally processed food and clean water/liquids are key to providing prana (life energy) and keeping our pets in balance, and we'll evaluate your pet's current diet through an Ayurvedic lens and discuss possible adjustments, taking into account any sensitivities or conditions your pet may have and the changing seasons throughout the year.
You've probably noticed how your pets intuitively follow their daily routine (dinacharya) without fail (until we humans interfere!); maintaining balanced sleep routines, daily habits and exercise all contribute to a healthy physical, emotional & spiritual life. We'll discuss your pet's daily and seasonal routines and incorporate adjustments to better support doshic imbalances and other concurrent conditions, making sure to always acknowledge season and diet.
Medicinal plants and herbal formulas are used for many purposes in Ayurveda, including Rasayana ("Rejuvenation" or promotion of health & longevity), Chikitsa (treatment of doshic imbalances or specific medical conditions) and Shodhana (cleansing/detoxification). We all (furry and less furry creatures) like to indulge in yummy but "less than ideal" foods from time to time, and these can create bodily imbalances or toxins within our bodies. We'll incorporate herbs as needed to help maintain optimal health for your pet. Herbs are available in several formats including tablets, powders, cooled teas, tinctures and oils.
